Union Savings Bank Kicks Off its 2018 USB Teachers’ Closet School Supply Drive

Program grows to include a signature sponsor and new social media driven elements

DANBURY, (August 8, 2018) – Union Savings Bank is excited to kick off its 2018-2019 USB Teachers’ Closet Supply Drive by announcing the addition of new social media-driven elements that will encourage greater community participation and will drive monetary donations.

“We are thrilled to kick off the new school year with a USB Teachers’ Closet School Supply Drive,” says Cynthia Merkle, president and CEO of Union Savings Bank. “At Union Savings Bank, we understand the value of education and the supplies required to help our children succeed, but all too often our teachers have to pay for school supplies out of their own pockets. We are honored to help ease that burden and support the incredible teachers in our community through this program.”

According to CNN, 94 percent of teachers in the U.S. spend their own money to provide school supplies for their students, costing an average of $479 a year. As part of its ongoing dedication to education, Union Savings Bank launched the USB Teachers’ Closet in 2016 as a community initiative to gather much-needed school supplies to fill teachers’ closets and classrooms in their local schools.

This year, Union Savings Bank is also adding a social media component to the program. The bank will post related content on its Facebook page and for every “like, comment and share” their signature sponsor, Winbrook, will donate $5, up to $2,000. Winbrook is a print, promotional, packaging, display and digital company that brings a company’s brand to life.

“We are proud to be the signature sponsor for the 2018-2019 USB Teachers’ Closet Supply Drive,” says Scott Lattanzio, President of Winbrook. “For more than 50 years, we have specialized in educational publishing, so we understand the importance of school supplies and their ability to transform a student’s learning experience. Teachers do so much for their students already, so we want to help take providing school supplies off their plates through this sponsorship.”

School supply collection boxes will be located at all Union Savings Bank branches, and everyone is welcome to stop by to drop off new supplies August 1 through August 31. Items most in need are crayons, colored pencils, spiral notebooks, glue, scissors and erasers.
