Union Savings Bank Now Instantly Issues Debit Cards at All 25 Branches and Digitally Within USB Mobile

These new capabilities allow customers to obtain a new or replacement card in minutes and easily link to mobile devices.

Danbury, CONN. (April 6, 2021) – Waiting a week or more to obtain a new or replacement debit card is a thing of the past and using it on a mobile device is now easier than ever, thanks to instant debit card issuance and digital debit card issuance, now available from Union Savings Bank (USB).

“We are committed to investing in technology and services that offer greater convenience and a better experience to our customers,” said Peter Scotch, SVP, Director of Innovation Center, Union Savings Bank. “When an existing customer’s debit card is lost, stolen, or compromised, visiting the branch to obtain a replacement card that’s printed and issued on the spot is a great benefit. And for new customers, instant issuance allows them to have full access to their funds when the account is opened so that they can begin using their card immediately.  Digital instant issuance is another great capability that we’ve invested in to serve the increasing number of people using mobile wallets on their iPhones and Apple Watches to make purchases.”

Current and new USB consumer and business customers can visit any branch to obtain a replacement or new contactless USB Debit Card or HSA Debit Card in minutes ─ rather than waiting a week or more for the card to arrive in the mail.  The contactless USB Debit Card offers convenience and speed at checkout ─ but with the same security as chip transactions.

To start the card replacement process, a USB customer service team member first verifies a customer’s identity and then after a few simple steps, prints the card, all of which takes place in a secure environment.  The customer then activates the card and selects a personal identification number (PIN) over the phone via a secure interactive voice response (IVR) system.

USB personal banking customers who would like to enroll their contactless USB Debit Card in Apple Pay on an iPhone or Apple Watch, or both devices, can do so right within the USB Mobile App. Customers simply log into the USB Mobile App and find their newly issued USB Debit Cards ready to be enrolled, even before the physical card is in-hand. It takes just a few, quick steps to complete.  Once enrolled, the new card can be immediately used to make purchases via Apple Pay, both in-store and online.  Previously issued debit cards will also appear in the USB Mobile App and can be enrolled as well.

For added protection, USB offers Debit Card Controls, available within the USB Mobile App. It allows customers to turn debit cards on or off in real time, reducing the risk of fraud if cards are misplaced.

Contactless debit card technology, instant issuance, and digital instant issuance capabilities are among the many enhancements USB has been investing in to maximize ease-of-use for customers.
